Northern Irish youngster Alex Hughes, 11, qualifies for Worthington’s Champion of Champions Finals

Northern Irish youngster Alex Hughes has qualified for the Worthington’s Champion of Champions Finals after winning a qualifying event in Strabane last week.

The 11-year-old entered the qualifier, held at Kirks Bar last Friday, and came through a field of more than 40 players to win a spot at the finals in Cardiff later this month.

“This is my first-ever full men’s event win and I cannot believe how happy I am,” Hughes told Red Dragon Darts.

“I’ve practiced every day for the last two years so to play in full men’s events like the Champion of Champions is a dream come true.”

The Champion of Champions Finals takes place on Saturday, August 26, and will see 256 players competing at St. David’s Hall, in Cardiff, for a slice of the £20,000 prize fund, with previous winners of the event including PDC stars Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton.
