Prussian Arceno won his first Soft Darts World Championship – The World stage title with victory in stage three in Taiwan on Sunday.
The Philippines thrower defeated Japan’s Kenichi Ajiki in the final to scoop the $15,000 top prize at the Wagor International Conference Centre in Taichung.
Arceno’s route to the title began with three victories in Block 3 of the round-robin, seeing off Bryan Eribal, Lee Swee Hai and June Wii Huang to advance to the knockout stages.
Wins over Yeh Ho Shu, Chris Lim, Yang Hsin Fu and Haruki Muramatsu saw Arceno advance to the quarter-finals, where he took on stage two winner and ranking leader Paul Lim.
After beating Lim to progress to the last four, Arceno saw off the challenge of France’s Cyril Blot to reach the final, while Ajiki defeated Harith Lim in the other semi-final.
Arceno then won the decider against Ajiki to claim his first stage title and move into 29th place in the rankings.
Stage four of this year’s Soft Darts World Championship – The World takes place in Japan at Tokyo Big Sight on August 19.
