The 32-player field for the BetVictor World Matchplay has been confirmed, with Justin Pipe clinching the last qualification spot on the final weekend before the cut-off.
The world number 30, who reached back-to-back quarter-finals at the Winter Gardens in 2012 and 2013, went into the Players Championship double-header in Barnsley this past weekend outside of the qualification places allotted to the Pro Tour Order of Merit.
But a run to the semi-finals in Players Championship 15 on Saturday saw Pipe climb above emerging youngster Chris Dobey, and although he lost in the second round of Sunday’s event he held onto the final qualifying place ahead of Jonny Clayton and Dobey.
This year’s World Matchplay sees a record £500,000 prize fund on offer, with 32 players competing from July 22-30 for the £115,000 top prize.
The top 16 players from the PDC Order of Merit qualify by right for the event as the seeded players, and they are joined by 16 qualifiers from the one-year Pro Tour Order of Merit.
