Two-time finalist Terry Jenkins will miss the BetVictor World Matchplay for the first time since 2004, after deciding not to enter the final two events before the cut-off.
The 53-year-old has continued to scale back on his playing schedule on the PDC circuit this year, with the UK Open in March being the last tournament he has played in.
The world number 23 had an outside chance of still qualifying for Blackpool, but needed to enter Players Championships 15 and 16 in Barnsley on July 8-9 to win the money required to push him into a qualifying spot.
Jenkins made his debut at the World Matchplay back in 2003, losing out to Colin Lloyd 10-8 and, after missing out on the 2004 event, he has featured in the last 12 stagings of the major event.
Jenkins made the final on two occasions, in 2007 and 2009, while last year he bowed out to Gary Anderson in an 11-5 defeat in the last 16, after beating Justin Pipe 10-7 in the first round.
Away from Jenkins, and with the Shanghai Darts Masters, the second event of this year’s World Series, taking place on July 6-7, none of the players competing in Asia, including the likes of Michael van Gerwen, Gary Anderson and Peter Wright, have entered.
Adrian Lewis and Jelle Klaasen are the only players from the top eight to have entered Players Championships 15 and 16, with world number seven Mensur Suljovic also deciding to skip the double-header.
