The PDC William Hill World Darts Championship has finished runner-up in the Best Sports Event of the Year award at the Sports Business Awards today.
On a shortlist of nine sports events, which also included the UCI Track Cycling World Championship, Aviva Premiership Rugby Final and the launch of video game FIFA 17, the PDC’s flagship tournament has finished in second place.
A lunchtime ceremony took place at the Brewery in London this afternoon, where more than 400 attendees were expected, including the chief executive of the PDC, Matthew Porter.
The winners of the Best Sports Event of the Year award went to Harlequins’ Big Game 9, a charity rugby match which attracted more than 70,000 people to Twickenham on December 27 last year.
