BDO number one Glen Durrant will make his debut in the SINGHA Beer Grand Slam of Darts in November, after being picked as one of the eight BDO players to compete in the cross-code event.
The BDO announced today how its eight representatives would be selected for this year’s tournament, with Durrant also joined by Scott Waites, Jeff Smith and Darryl Fitton.
Waites qualified by winning the BDO World Championship at the start of this year, with runner-up Smith also earning a spot and his debut appearance at the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton.
Fitton returns to the tournament after winning the World Trophy in May, while Durrant’s place was given for being last year’s Winmau World Masters champion.
The remaining four places available to the BDO system will go to the top four non-qualified players from the BDO Invitational Rankings on September 30.
Heading into this weekend’s Antwerp Open, the four currently on course to qualify are Scott Mitchell, Martin Adams, Danny Noppert and Jamie Hughes.
Former Lakeside champions Mitchell and Adams both made their debuts in the Grand Slam last year, while for Noppert and Hughes, they would be making their first appearance in the event if they qualify at the end of next month.
The Grand Slam was first held back in 2007 and in its nine stagings so far has been won by a player from the PDC eight times.
In 2010, two-time Lakeside champion Scott Waites beat James Wade 16-12 to become the BDO’s first winner of the Grand Slam.
