This year’s Winmau World Masters now has a venue after the Lakeside Country Club stepped in as hosts at the weekend.

The BDO’s second biggest tournament of the year was without a venue after the Copper Box Arena, in London pulled out of hosting the event in late May.

During the BDO’s AGM on Sunday it is understood that the new location for this year’s World Masters was announced.

It is the second time this year that the Lakeside, which has hosted the organisation’s World Championship since 1986, has answered the BDO’s call to be the venue for another one of its events.

The World Trophy was staged at the Frimley Green facility in May after its original venue, the Victoria Warehouse, cancelled its contract with the BDO.

The World Masters is one of the longest running tournaments in darts, having been first held in 1974, and has been staged in Hull for the last six years.

This will not be the first time that the World Masters has been held at Lakeside though.

Between 1998 and 2001 the tournament was staged at the famous Lakeside venue.

Glen Durrant won the men’s title last year after beating Larry Butler 7-3 in the final, while the ladies crown went to Aileen de Graaf after she got the better of Lisa Ashton 5-4.
