The Lakeside semi finalist, Jamie Hughes talks us through his darts memories…
First darts memory?
My first darts memory is the Bobby George v John Part Lakeside final, when Bobby played with a broken back.
First darts hero?
It was Bobby George because of watching that final.
First set of darts?
My first set of darts were found by my uncle on a canal towpath. I don’t know what make or weight they were.
First darts team?
It was a local CIU club called Summerhill Social. I played football for them and got roped into playing darts for them by a few mates.
First game on TV?
My first TV appearance was in the quarter finals of the England Open in 2014, which was shown live on Eurosport. I beat Martin Stead 4-2 and then in the semi finals I lost 6-3 to Wesley Harms, who went on to win the tournament.
First nine darter?
My first and only nine darter was in a local competition against a friend of mine named Lol Frazer. I hit 177, 180 and 144.
First professional tournament win?
My first ranking tournament win was the Antwerp Open in 2014. It was a special moment. I beat Glen Durrant 5-2 in the quarter finals before beating Sam Hewson 2-0 to reach the final. In the final I managed to beat Martin Adams in a deciding set 3-2 to win the title. I’ve won seven more tournaments in the BDO since then.
